- ⏳ Platinum Travel ₹7L ladder - RUN IT BEFORE 10 SEP 2026
The current milestone ladder (₹1.9L → 7,500 MR; ₹4L → +10,000; ₹7L → +22,500 + ₹10,000 Taj voucher) is reported to be gutted from 10 Sep 2026: the ₹1.9L rung vanishes and ₹7L drops to a Taj voucher only. If you are mid-ladder, finish before the cutover.
Current full ladder: ₹7L spend → 54,000 MR + ₹10K Taj ≈ 4.0% at floor / 5.3% at Taj rates. Post-change: 24,000 MR + ₹20K Taj ≈ 4.0-4.6%, and only if Taj spend is real for you.
- 🔁 MR → Marriott 1:1 - the transfer that reliably beats vouchers
India MR transfers to airlines at a weak 2:1, but Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 - and mid/high-value Bonvoy redemptions clear the ₹0.583 Taj benchmark almost unconditionally. Airline 2:1 transfers only win on premium-cabin awards.
24,000 MR → 24,000 Bonvoy → a 25,000-pt night at a ₹15,000 property ≈ ₹0.6+/MR, above every voucher option.
- 🏛️ Paying income tax on a card - the short survivors list
Most cards exclude government MCCs, and the tax portal charges ~0.85-1% for card mode - but a few cards still net positive, and RuPay-credit-via-UPI through the SBI gateway dodges the portal fee entirely.
₹1,00,000 advance tax on HSBC Premier: ~₹3,000 in points minus ~₹0 via UPI-RuPay routing or minus ~₹1,000 card-mode fee - net 2-3% on money you had to pay anyway.
- 🪔 Akshaya Tritiya / Dhanteras - when jewellery stacks 3 deep
The two gold festivals are when store making-charge offers (up to 20-35%), bank instant discounts (~5% capped), and card rewards stack. Amex carries standing jeweller tie-ups (Kalyan 35% off making on Amex vs 25% on Visa).
A ₹2L jewellery purchase: 25% off ₹30k making (₹7,500) + ₹2,500 instant discount + ₹6,600 Infinia points ≈ ₹16,600 (8%+) vs walking in on a random Tuesday.
